INTERNATIONAL CLASSIFICATION OF INSURANCE IN CAR RENTAL

In the foreign rental world, you can often come across abbreviations for the names of various types of insurance. Let's consider the most common ones, tell you what they mean, and also tell you what kind of insurance there is in Belarus, similar to foreign ones.

The main types of car insurance abroad:

NAME   DISCRIPTION
1. TPL - Third Party Liability Insurance - third party insurance  

  This type of insurance is analogous to our OSAGO - insurance of third-party cars affected by your fault. TPL insurance covers damage to any property other than your car. The insurance also covers bodily harm caused to people, whether they were in the rented car or not, in accordance with the terms of the rental agreement.

2. CDW  – Collision Damage Waiver - accident and damage insurance  

  This type of insurance is analogous to our CASCO. CDW insurance covers damage to the rental car and reduces the amount of the payment to a certain amount (most often a deductible) that will be collected from the renter if the damage to the car is caused by his fault.

3. THW - Theft Waiver - burglary and theft insurance  

  THW package of fear covers injuries, half-hearted at the beginning of a stroke or stroke, sums up the cost of renting a rented machine.

4. LDW  - Lost Damage Waiver  - reduced liability for damages  

 LDW includes CDW and THW insurance packages.

5. SCDW (FCDW) - Super Collision Damage Waiver (Full Collision Damage Waiver) - super accident and damage insurance  

 This type of insurance is similar to full CASCO, without deductible. The SCDW(FCDW) policy covers damage to the rental car and reduces your liability to the amount specified in the insurance contract, usually the car's commercial market value.

6. STHW   - Super Theft Waiver - super insurance against burglary and theft  

  The STHW insurance package covers all losses caused by an attempted theft or break-in of a car, reducing payments to the amount specified in the contract.

7. SLDW - Super Loss Damage Waiver – car damage and theft insurance (with deductible)  

  This insurance package includes SCDW and STHW. SLDW insurance covers all types of damage (including glass, wheels, evacuation, loss of keys, etc.), but in the event of an accident will have to pay the franchise.

8. SPCDW - Super Protection Collision Damage Waiver - car accident and damage insurance  

  SPCDW the insurance package covers all damage to the car and reduces the amount of payments to 0 (except for accessories)

9. SPTHW - Super Protection Theft Waiver - car burglary and theft insurance  

  SPTHW insurance covers losses caused by the theft or break-in of the car and reduces the amount of the renter's payment to 0.

10. SPLDW - Super Plus Loss Damage Waiver – insurance combines SPCDW and SPTHW  

  SPLDW additionally reduces or fully covers the deductible in case of theft or damage to the vehicle in an accident.

11. WWI – world wide insure - windshield, headlight and tire damage insurance  

  WWI insurance covers damage to the windshield, headlights, wheels and tires, except in cases where the damage was caused by the tenant's negligence, willful acts or criminogenic incidents. This insurance does not cover damage to side and rear windows.

12. PAI - Personal Accident Insurance - personal life insurance package for the tenant and passengers against accident  

  PAI insurance package covers any bodily injury or death of the driver (renter) and all passengers of the rented car. Usually offered as additional insurance.

13. PEC - personal insurance package  

  PEC insurance package covers damage and loss of the tenant's personal belongings.

14. PAEC - personal life insurance package  

PAEC insurance includes PAI and PEC.

     


 And in conclusion for information:
Excess - franchise, i.e. part of the amount of damage covered by the tenant. If the amount of damage is less than the amount of the deductible, then all damage is covered by the tenant. (Franchise varies from 500-700 to 1000-1200 EUR in Europe, which must be specified in the rental company)

Some car rental companies offer a Refundable Excess service - this is a kind of insurance for the amount of the deductible and it can cost less than SCDW(SLDW) . The essence of the service is as follows: if you have been withheld part of the damage within the deductible amount, but you have provided documents confirming such payment to the rental company, then they will reimburse the paid deductible after checking the correctness of the executed documents, compliance with all conditions and did not fall under the restrictions of these conditions.
